And
The Creation
At the beginning of the autumn of 2018, I met Mattias Sköld at the Concert Hall in Stockholm and he was eager to talk. "I have something new going on…."
The new one was a new oratorio which, although only finished in booklets, he still wanted me to read through and comment. Said and done. I got a half oratorio and after playing through the score I was completely convinced. My comment was: "If you have the whole work finished before New Year, I promise to do everything to get it performed in 2019".
And the first week of January 2019, the whole new The Creation was ready!
Mikaeli chamber choir and I have had the privilege and joy of being able to premiere several of Mattias Sköld's other major works. I feel a new tone in this new oratorio - a more direct address, a more interesting form and maybe even a touch of romantic beauty in the sound!

After the successes of several smaller choral works a cappella and after the major investments
Requiem (solo, choir, strings and synth from 2007), Christmas Oratorio (solo, choir and chamber orchestra from 2011) and St. John Passion (tenor solo, choir and percussion quartet from 2014) is now The Creation!
The oratorio is based on the same text as Joseph Haydn's familiar Die Schöpfung but now in the English version. And this time Mattias Sköld has chosen to play with three soloists, choir, 6 brass instruments (2 horns, 2 trp, 1 trb and tuba) and 2 synthesizers.
Duration 45-50 minutes.
Participants:
SOFIA NIKLASSON soprano
ANNA ZANDER SAND mezzo-soprano
CARL UNANDER SCHARIN tenor
MIKAELI CHAMBER CHOIR
STOCKHOLM BRASS QUINTET

As a prelude to the concert, Paul Hindemith's Apparebit repentina dies will be performed;
a work from 1947 for choir and 10 brass instruments. This highly expressive work in three movements has a Latin text from early 700s England.
The concert is recorded by SRP2 Live and later broadcast on P2
